Big solutions for small spaces

Renovating a small bathroom is a big challenge. When it comes to vanities, you need to choose wisely to maximize storage without wasting precious space.

Here are our tips on how to make a small space as functional as possible, without compromising on looks!

Create a plan based on good design practices

Our in-store experts are an invaluable resource when it comes to following good design practices. To make things easier, it’s important to first draw up a rough floor plan of your space.

Choose the right layout for your space

Our products are available in multiple sizes to fit virtually any space. To help you choose the right layout for your bathroom, we’ve provided examples of typical widths for each product category, which may vary slightly between collections.*

As a general rule, you want to leave at least 6" of space between the various units for console-type furniture on legs. Wall-mounted and freestanding (on the floor) furniture can usually be placed right next to each other, with no space between them.

*Each collection on our website provides an overview of the available products and dimensions (click to see an example).

Choose light and airy designs

  1. To make the room look bigger, go for a wall-mounted vanity or one with a niche or on legs.
  2. Opt for simple, sleek designs to avoid cluttering up the room.
  3. Choose a vanity that’s shallower than the standard 19" to 22". Our MINI series has vanities 12" or 16" deep, while the SMILE, U, and WALL collections are only 16 ⅝" deep. Learn more about them in our "featured collections" section at the end of the article.

Optimize your layout

  1. To maximize storage, opt for medicine cabinets over mirrors, ideally with built-in lighting to properly illuminate the room and make it look bigger.
  2. Adding an auxiliary medicine cabinet above the toilet is another way to maximize bathroom space.
  3. You can also opt for a linen cabinet that is attached to the vanity. The linen cabinet in our MINI STUDIO collection even has storage space in the door (like a fridge) for added functionality.

Pro tips!

  1. Some collections have a toe-kick drawer under the vanity that’s ideal for storing large items like bath towels for the whole family. This drawer is perfect for small bathrooms because it doesn’t add extra width (unlike a linen cabinet). To preserve a sense of lightness in your wall-mounted vanity, choose a two-tone design, ideally with a toe-kick drawer that’s lighter than the vanity.
  2. Opt for a small sink. You can also choose an off-centered sink to create more countertop space on one side.

Featured collections!

All our collections are available in compact sizes (24" and up) to fit a small bathroom.
